Our Goal: The Permanent Preservation of 100,000 Tillable Acres of Farmland
Welcome to the Carroll County Land Trust
Carroll County residents, don’t miss the opportunity to become one of those who “kept the faith” with our rural heritage by participating in the on-going mission: to permanently preserve at least 100,000 acres of land for the benefit of generations to come.
Beginning in 1980 and through the year 2019, by sheer dedication and perseverance, this achievable goal resulted in 73,000 acres of land being permanently preserved. Because, we the people of Carroll County simply cannot take another 15 years to preserve the additional 27,000 acres needed, we must accelerate and accomplish this goal as quickly as possible or it may be too late. It can be done, if you will help.
Why is at least 1000,000 acres of preserved land necessary in Carroll County? Because without a critical mass of agricultural and rural land there becomes a tipping point where it is no longer feasible for farmers to continue their livelihood. The economics and logistics become such that farmers relocate their resources to regions that are conducive to scaling their operations.
The Carroll County Land Trust sincerely hopes you will consider the possibility of creating an agricultural or conservation easement on your land. But even if you don’t own land with easement potential, your support is vital for the success of land conservation in Carroll County and the preservation of our rural heritage.
